Can you resell a lifetime deal? How seat resale works on Day Zero
A lifetime deal is usually tied to the account that bought it. On Day Zero, each deal is a numbered seat you can resell, at your price, until you redeem it.
In short
- A Day Zero seat can be resold any time before you redeem it.
- You set the price; the buyer pays you on PayPal, and the seat moves once PayPal confirms.
- Day Zero takes nothing on resales, and founders can't block them.
Most lifetime deals belong to the account that bought them. If you stop needing the product, there's often no way to pass it on. Day Zero seats work differently: each lifetime deal is a numbered seat, and you can sell it until you redeem it.
How resale works
- Add your PayPal email in your account.
- List your seat on the resale market at any price.
- A buyer pays you directly on PayPal.
- The seat moves to them once PayPal confirms.
Day Zero takes nothing when backers sell seats to each other. Founders accept resale when they list, and can't block it. Your First Backer badge stays with you after you sell.
When a seat can't be resold
Once you redeem a seat in the founder's product, it's yours for good and can't be listed.
Why buy a resold seat
Once a campaign's founding seats are gone, a resold seat is the way in. Deal pages show the founder's seats and backer listings side by side, with the lowest listed price.
Why resale matters
It makes backing early less of a one-way door. If your plans change before the product opens, someone who wants it can take your seat. Read more about backing pre-launch software.
